📝 How to File a Private School Affidavit (PSA)
If you’re choosing to homeschool independently, you’ll need to file a Private School Affidavit with the state of California. This is a legal way to operate your own private school from home.
🛠 Here’s how to file:
- Visit the California Department of Education website: CDE Private School Affidavit Filing
2. The filing window opens every year on October 1st for the current school year. If you begin homeschooling before October, just keep attendance and records, then file once the window opens.

Printable Attendance & Record-Keeping Forms for PSA Families
If you're homeschooling under a Private School Affidavit (PSA), it's important to maintain basic records for your child’s education. Below are recommended forms you can print and use for your own personal records:
✅ 1. Attendance Record
Track your student's attendance throughout the school year. California requires 175 instructional days, but does not mandate specific tracking methods.
